Question by Katie: How do I make friends?

I am twenty two and have just graduated from TAFE. To anyone overseas, TAFE is college without dormitories. I have three friends, but I rarely see two of them and I feel lonely. I am not a tomboy nor am I a lesbian, but I believe I think a bit more like a man than a woman. I now have time to find a hobby and commit to it, so I am wondering what kinds of social groups, eg. sporting teams apart from soccer or cricket could be a good way to meet people around my age? I mean, where people are likely to want to have conversations in time and not just go there to play sports and go away again. I feel very concerned about how heavily we rely on computers now and know from experience that the world is a faster place where people do seem more insular and afraid of change. I ask that no one makes crude comments about sex, because this is a serious question that has nothing to do with picking up.

soccer is the most popular sport. Go to places that have a lot of people and strike up random conversations. When you do find a hobby, it becomes easier to make friends :)
